The Burnout Energy Map

Why doing more isn't the answer to burnout

Most people try to fix burnout by doing less. Fewer meetings, shorter days, a proper lunch break. Sometimes that helps. But a lot of the time, it doesn't — because burnout was never really about how much you were doing. It's about where your energy was going.

I use a simple framework with clients called the Energy Map. It asks two questions about anything you spend energy on:

  1. How much energy is this costing me — high or low?

  2. Is this actually aligned with what I value — or does it just feel productive, or feel like rest, without really being either?

You don't need to overhaul your life to get out of burnout. You need to start noticing, honestly, which box your energy is actually going into — and make one deliberate shift at a time.
